In an alternate 1985 America, costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. Mo Folchart possesses a secret ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads them aloud. But when Mo accidentally brings a power-hungry villain from a rare children's fable to life, the villain kidnaps Mo's daughter and demands Mo bring other evil fictional characters to life. In an attempt to rescue his daughter, Mo assembles a disparate group of friends --both real and magic--and embarks on a journey to save her and set things right.

Dakota Fanning may not be saying much about joining the cast of the Twilight sequel, but yesterday she did confirm she's in talks to play Jane!

As I exclusively reported last week, the 14-year-old child star has been offered the role of the young killer bloodsucker in the movie adaptation of New Moon, the second book in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling teenage vampire series.

"It's definitely possible. I really hope it works out," Fanning told Hitfix.com while promoting her latest flick Push. "It would be a really fantastic experience I'm sure."

Director Chris Weitz is so confident that Fanning is right for the part, he offered it to without even an audition. Filming of the much-anticipated flick begins in March in the U.S. and Italy.

A member of the deadly Volturi, Jane is described in a casting notice as a petite blonde with a "Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises."

An online petition to cast Fanning as Jane has seen a huge bump in signatures ever since my story broke on Wednesday.

A rep for the studio, Summit Entertainment, reportedly confirmed Fanning is one of the actors being considered for the role.

If it happens, Fanning will join returning stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, among others. New Moon is set to open in November.

This sci-fi thriller involves a group of young American expatriates with telekinetic, telepathic, and clairvoyant abilities, hiding from a clandestine U.S. government agency referred to as "Division." They try to find the only woman that ever escaped from "Division". She is their only key to finding out how to escape the agency. They must also use their different talents and band together for a final job enabling them to escape the agency forever.

Variety writes that:[1]

"The film reportedly focuses on a group of American ex-pats in Hong Kong. Since they're also sheltering telekinetic and clairvoyant powers, the government is after them."

Those with these abilities are divided into several categories:

* Movers can manipulate inanimate objects at varying distances. The actual technique is known as kinetic signature control, where the mover is trained to "hear" and identify the specific atomic frequency of any given material, and alter the gravity wave around it, usually producing the nearby air to appear "warped". Advanced movers can work at the molecular level creating protective shields in the air around them.
* Pushers can "push" specific thoughts, memories, and even emotions into their targets. This technique can be used to gain a subject's trust, or to have them perform any action, thinking it was their own agenda.
* Watchers are trained to self-induce visions of the future, very much like a prolonged sense of déjà vu. The technique of following the future, either of a person or object, is called subject tracking. A Watcher's skill is primarily rated by how far they can see into the future.
* Bleeders have the ability to emit high-pitched sonic vibrations that cause ruptures in a target's blood vessels.
* Sniffs are highly developed clairvoyants who can track the location of either people or objects over varying distances. Like psychic bloodhounds, their tracking ability is increased if they have tactile access to an object that has been in direct contact with the subject. Sniffs receive information based on images, not specific addresses, which is why identifiable landmarks help increase their effectiveness.
* Shifters can temporarily shift patterns of light on any object to create illusions to the naked eye. They work mostly on a touch basic, but once the illusion is established, it remains with the object for short periods of time. For example, a Shifter could momentarily touch a one dollar bill, altering its light pattern to appear as a one hundred dollar bill for hours, until the effect expires. The length of the shift is based on experience and ability.
* Wipers are skilled at either temporary or permanent memory erasure, an invaluable asset in espionage. Experience will dictate the accuracy of their wipes, though the danger is always present that they will eliminate a desired memory.
* Shadows are trained to block the vision of other clairvoyants such as Sniffs, making any subject within their target radius appear "dark". Experience will enhance the size of the area they can shadow and the intensity of their shielding effect. Shadows need to be awake to perform their ability, and it is common for a detail of two Shadows to operate in shifts while protecting a person or object for extended periods.
* Stitchers are psychic surgeons trained to quickly reconstruct cells to their previous or healthy state. Using only their hands, they can heal and even "unheal" whatever they have done. For more detailed work, Stitches use a silver based cream on their hands which acts as a conductor to their ability.

Most Anticipated Movies of 2009

The film industry had a record year in 2008, bringing in an estimated $9.8 billion at
the North American box office. It will be a tough act to follow, but 2009 promises to deliver as many -- if not more -- big movies. There are two big movies that were supposed to come out this past holiday season: the latest "Harry Potter" and the new take on "Star Trek." A wide variety of animated films are coming, from the latest in 3D digital technology to Disney's return to traditional animation. And, of course, there will be sequels (and prequels) galore. Here is a list of 30 of the most anticipated of this year, in order of release date.

3/6 - Watchmen
Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Patrick Wilson and Carla Gugino star in this adaptation of the famed graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.


3/27 - Monsters Vs. Aliens
Reese Witherspoon and Hugh Laurie star in this animated flick about a rag-tag band of mutants assembled by the U.S. military to thwart an invasion.

4/3 - Fast & Furious
Paul Walker and Vin Diesel partner up once again to fight crime and drive really fast.


5/1 - X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Hugh Jackman stars in this prequel to the X-Men trilogy exploring how Logan became the adamantium blade-wielding mutant Wolverine.

THE SPIRIT



In Central City, rookie cop Denny Colt returns from the dead as the detective known only as the Spirit to fight crime. After he finds his nemesis, the Octopus at the Central City mud flats, the femme fatale Sand Saref discovers two chests in a nearby pond. She tries to flee with both chests, but the Octopus shoots at her, snapping the line that connects the two chests together. After a fight with the Spirit, Octopus takes the remaining chest that Saref left behind and escapes with one of his thugs.

The Octopus wants the mystical Blood of Heracles in order to become immortal and Sand Saref wants the treasure of the Argonauts, but both people end up with the wrong chest, Sand with the blood and the Octopus with the treasure of the Argonauts.

The Spirit is involved in a love triangle with Sand Saref, who is actually Colt's childhood sweetheart until she'd left the city after her police officer father was shot and killed, and surgeon Ellen Dolan, Commissioner Dolan's daughter.

When Mo (Brendan Fraser) reads aloud from books, he has the ability to make the characters come out of the book, into real life. Mo discovered his power when his daughter Meggie (Eliza Bennett), was just a baby. Mo read aloud from the book Inkheart, which caused several of the book's wicked characters, including Capricorn (Andy Serkis), to literally come to life. But while he read them out of the book, he accidentally read Meggie’s mother, Teresa (Sienna Guillory) into the story.

Meggie is 12 years old, but knows nothing of her father's bizarre and powerful talent. But Meggie is annoyed that Mo still refuses to read to her. Capricorn, a man who burns for pleasure and being so evil that he would "feed a bird to a cat on purpose, just to watch it being torn apart", has searched for Meggie's father for years, seeking to twist Mo's powerful talent to his own dark means. Finally, Capricorn realizes that the best way to lure Mo to his remote mountain hideaway is to use his beloved daughter Meggie as bait. While Meggie discovers Capricorn's ruthless plan, she too, can pluck people from pages and bring them to life, but it takes a while for her to realize her power.

2009's Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- With Oscar season contenders and holiday blockbusters on the way, 2008 is still far from over, but according to MovieTickets.com, many people are already looking forward to next year's films.

MovieTickets.com reportedly did a survey of 4,000 movie fans that bought tickets from its site for their most anticipated films, and the results are in. The most popular pick was "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," the sixth film in the series, which was pushed back to next summer from a previously announced holiday release. And larger-than-life action heroes led the rest of the pack, with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" coming in second and third, respectively.


The list also includes some spandex-free big-budget sequels -- Ben Stiller's "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian," and Tom Hanks' "Angels & Demons," which is actually the prequel to the wildly successful "The Da Vinci Code." Kids are looking forward to another "Ice Age" film, "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," while grown-ups should thrill to "Public Enemies," a Michael Mann-directed crime drama starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale as well as "The Informant," a real-life tale starring Matt Damon. Rounding out the list is "The Taking of Pelham 123" with Denzel Washington and John Travolta, which follows hijackers who take over a New York City train. And for those who can't wait till next year, there's even a 2008 film on the list -- sci-fi remake "The Day The Earth Stood Still," due December 12.
